Hello, I'm David Nguyen.

I’m a product design leader, and I run Chaotic Domain, my own company. Its main product is User Sage, a user research and usability testing platform. User Sage started as an experiment, a way to test what AI can actually do for research, and grew into the product I spend most of my time on today. Teams use it to build studies, run them with real participants or an AI panel, sit in on live moderated sessions, and keep their findings in one place.

Before User Sage, I led design teams at Blizzard Entertainment, Rakuten, PADI, Root Insurance, Just Energy, and RED Digital Cinema. I have managed and mentored designers at every one of those stops, and teaching is still part of my week. I teach UX III at UCLA Extension, where student teams spend the quarter on one design challenge, from research to a final presentation. I have taught the course since 2022.

I build smaller tools alongside the main work. Design Sage is a Figma plugin that gives designers a structured first review of their work in minutes. ProductRubric is a library of evaluation rubrics that any AI assistant can run against product work, free for anyone to use. Both started in the Lab, where I test AI ideas for design and research. Through Chaotic Domain, I also consult with teams on UX strategy and product design.

Things I do

I lead product design teams, mentor designers, consult on UX strategy, and teach at UCLA Extension. Most of my building time these days goes to User Sage and the experiments in the Lab.

In my free time, I love designing and creating things, whether it’s crafting unique lamps, tinkering with switches, or dreaming up quirky gizmos that might just surprise people. I’m also connected to the local Orange County User Experience community, a group I helped start that keeps me inspired through a shared passion for design.

My rule for AI is simple. AI gives you the hypothesis. Findings take real people. I use AI for first reads and fast first drafts across design and research, and I hold the same line everywhere: the judgment, the decisions, and the proof come from people.
